Flammerole for Piccolo and Piano

Sophie Dufeutrelle is such imaginative composer and this piece is full of drama with colourful writing exploring all the sounds that the piccolo and piano can achieve together. The eerie opening cadenza is rudely interrupted by percussive piano notes, before rippling quintuplets underpin strange low piccolo trills. The shadow of this moon is very spooky. The dance is rhythmic, difficult, exciting and slightly mad, just as you might expect a 'will-o-the-wisp' to be. A tremendous workout for both players, this will surely result in a standing ovation at every performance.
