Festive Fragments for Three Flutes
- Great for teachers
From the Publisher
Festive Fragments (12/24 Flute Trios for seasonal fun!)
- for three same flutes.
- Pieces in varying difficulty levels (* to ***).
- Great for the rhythmically challenged!
- A useful tool for correct note voicing due to frequent leaps/drops!
The collection includes 12 Christmas Carols/well known Christmas tunes as a fragmented melody only option (think flute handbells?!) and then the same 12 pieces but with the addition of a harmony line added (also fragmented!) so at any time a player could be playing a melody note followed by harmony notes etc...the parts when viewed separately seem nonsense! Great fun for small ensembles in the Christmas season.
Keri Degg: The idea for fragmenting melodies (and in turn interweaved harmonies) came about from many years of being involved in private instrumental teaching. Of all the many issues on the musical journey, difficulty with rhythm reading seems to be near the top and I understood the frustrations and despondency this often caused in students. In time this can lead to a lack of motivation and a feeling that things are never going to improve...it can all appear a bit bleak.
One evening I decided to try out the first Festive Fragment on my community mixed wind band. The short piece was mysteriously named Level 2 and they were told that they would only recognise the piece if most of the rhythms were in the right places and most of the note pitches correct. Much fun ensued and they continue to enjoy my mystery pieces!
Festive Fragments is available for three same saxophones, three same clarinets, and flute/flute, clarinet/clarinet, saxophone/saxophone duet editions.
