- Interesting, worth a look
From the Publisher
The 19th century virtuoso repertoire of 'salon pices' for flute is so vast that one may legitimately wonder whether any further addition is really necessary. To this one may argue that the repertoire might be in need of refreshing for, despite its incredible diversity, only very few pieces - not more that 10 to the utmost- are actually performed. Other arguments also plead in favour of this particular Fantasy based on themes from an opera by Franz Doppler (1821-1883), a composer famous for his flute pieces but whose operas are all now forgotten. Waht make the piece furthermore really special is that it was not written by any flute virtuoso but a pianist. As a result, both instruments are treated with equal virtuosity.
