From the Publisher
This charming duo was written in the composer's youth. In the summer of 1880 Busoni's music lessons were concerned primarily with acquiring of contrapuntal skills. With this flute piece he provided amazing testimony of his complete mastery of these skills. The work clearly shows that JS Bach served as a model and it is obvious that we have, in fact, a trio since in a number of places the piano abandons its role of harmonic support and becomes and equal partner.
