If you are lucky enough to have access to a Contrabass flute you will obviously really enjoy this piece! The pairing of a such a large instrument with the agile Allegro Vivo music of Fucik is interesting, and although the rest of the ensemble takes the lion's share of the semiquaver writing, there is quite a lot of running around for the solo as well. Problems with balance are solved by thinning out the texture when the contrabass plays, and as the solo passages are in short sections, the interplay between the instruments adds good textural structure. If you don't have a contrabass you could aways try it on the piccolo!
