Schubert omitted to write anything for wind quartet so this good arrangement will have to suffice! The theme is dramatic and the genius of the composer means that the variations are full of character and clearly defined.The skill of the arranger is to keep them intact and this has been achieved succesfully here. If you don't have an inbuilt prejudice against transcriptions do give this a try. If nothing else it's a contrast in your programme!
