“A short gem!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This short gem of a piece has been skillfully transcribed by Elizabeth Walker to allow modern flute players access to the music of the Renaissance. Not technically difficult, it will be the balancing of the parts and adapting the style of playing to reflect the character of this music that will be the challenge here. The reward is great though and this would really add an extra dimension to any ensemble concert.

From the Publisher

This Renaissance gem by Thomas Crecquillon is a beautiful, flowing chanson with three imitative voices. It was first printed in the 1540’s, but was recorded recently by Zephyrus Flutes (Nancy Hadden, Elizabeth Walker and Isabelle Sainte-Marie) on three Tenor D Renaissance flutes. The phrasing and dynamics in the stylish transcription (for 3 modern C flutes) echo the contrapuntal style of the original chanson.
