Cloudy Mountain for Flute and Piano

Anne Boyd has used a painting of a Cloudy Mountain by Fung Chin-Wan and a version of a 5 note pelog scale to create a striking Japanese landscape.  Not technically so very demanding, the skill here is to capture the improvisatory and unending flow of the textures. The use of the pelog scale restricts the note range so the tonal inflections of both the flute and piano, together with a rhythmic complexity will transport the listener to another place entirely. This a most wonderful and atmospheric piece which will make an excellent choice of contrasting programme material.
