Cats n' Flowers: 3 Duets for Soprano Voice and Alto Flute [Playing score(s)]
- Highly recommended
From the Publisher
Inspired by Rossini's famous Cat duet Duetto buffo di due gatti which was was based, as is this new arrangement on the original work of C. Weyse, Katzenduett is comic piece about two cats meeting, in which the soprano repeats just one word miau, while, the alto flute purrs like a cat [flutter tonguing] and meows. Straight forward and fun to perform.
The second song, Le Chat sur le toit, by female composer Mel Bonis to French words by Robert du Costal features the alto flute as a cat scrambling around on the roof top, while the soprano looks for it and sings a loving commentary on its movements. This song requires a greater degree of skill, as the two parts sing separately and sometimes in dissonance.
The third song requires no introduction as it is one of the most famous and best loved duets in the soprano's repertoire. The Flower Duet from Lakmé will be a sure winner in any recital.
