“Can you beatbox?”
Can you beatbox? If you can you will find this piece quite straightforward. Quite static in nature, the interest is in the tension between the variety of tonal textures of the flutes and the interuptions of the foot stamps. The result is a dark and slightly menacing piece which is very effective. This would be great for university or college groups to perform and the rest of us should probably have a go as well!
From the Publisher
Breaking Glass was commissioned by Slippery Rock University Flute Ensemble directed by Dr. Cassandra Eisenreich for the 2021 Honors Flute Ensemble during the 2021 Virtual Event.
The glass ceiling is a metaphor familiar to most women and minorities. Its that invisible barrier to promotion in a profession. There’s a certain level of advancement that is denied with no explanation no matter the diligence, determination, or qualification of the applicant. Breaking Glass is a tribute to all of the people who have had to march ahead, determined to kick down obstacles, and be the first to break those barriers. Thanks for being inspirational and helping to make the next level accessible for the rest of us.
