“Wonderful!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

This is a most marvellous book for starting off on a Baroque flute journey. Elizabeth Walker is not only an experienced performer but she also clearly knows how to pass her knowledge on to others. A basic fingering chart and some general information is followed by nine sections divided by key. Each of these has exercises, studies and repertoire extracts in that key. Tips on the various problems that might arise are explained in detail. The final chapters stretch technique even more fully and ormamentation is explored. There is a real understanding of the subject here and this results in a book that is easy to understand and use.

From the Publisher

Baroque Flute Studies by leading authority on historical performance practice, Elizabeth Walker, presents a ‘through the keys’ approach to baroque flute technique, with the chapters exploring the characteristic colours of each key. As well as tone exercises, studies, solos, duets and trios, the book includes fingering and trill fingering charts, a chapter on ornamentation, and orchestral excerpts in each key, including most of the regularly encountered J.S. Bach repertoire. This book is an indispensable resource for baroque flautists as well as being a useful study book for modern flautists wishing to further explore the baroque flute repertoire.
