“Interesting!”
It is interesting to find a new piece which is unusually inspired by a Greek sculpture. The five movements are gentle in outlook. The melody in Contemplation meanders over a mainly chordal accompaniment whilst Muse is more contraputal in nature. Insight, Reason and Debate are all quirky in terms of rhythms and harmonies. If you can play this as well as Pippa Davies this music will really suit you.
From the Publisher
The Balancing of Opposites takes as its inspiration the extraordinary sculpture of Discobolus by Myron, so wonderfully depicting calm and effort, poise and balance, and yet on the edge of a powerful force. I have set it within a flavour of Ancient Greece, and in particular the philosophical ideas that blossomed - for me they are encapsulated within the sculpture. But the spirit is under-stated and somewhat etherial - If you sense the breeze over the Aegean, all the better.
