From the Publisher

‘Ave verum corpus’ (Hail, true body) is the opening text of a motet composed in 1791 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was written to celebrate the feast of ‘the body of Christ’, Corpus Christi, in June 1781, for the church of St Stephen, Baden, outside Vienna. It was dedicated to his friend Anton Stoll, who was musical director there. The sublime simplicity of Mozart’s writing in this work of just 42 bars encapsulates his unique qualities of melody, harmony and counterpoint, making this short piece an unrivalled jewel in the entire canon of musical output.
