Klaus Hinrich Stahmer was born on June 25, 1941 in Stettin (now Polish: Szczecin). After fleeing to Lüneburg, where he spent his childhood, he began studying music at the Dartington College of Arts (England) in 1959, which he continued in 1960 at the Hamburg University of Music and at the universities of Hamburg and Kiel. From 1969, Stahmer worked as a university lecturer at the Bavarian State Conservatory of Music in Würzburg (since 1973 the University of Music). Here he founded and directed the Days of New Music festival (1977-2001) and the Studio for New Music (1989-2003). In addition to his varied work as a university lecturer, festival and concert organizer, Stahmer, who has a doctorate in musicology, regularly produced programs on current music on various radio stations. In terms of cultural policy, Stahmer was active in several committees (German Music Council, etc.) for the interests of contemporary music. Since his retirement from university service (2004), Stahmer has worked as a composer and continues to go on lecture and study tours to the countries of the Near and Far East from his home in Würzburg. Stahmer writes about his composition: The Frogs that incomparably comic sequence of scenes by Aristophanes is the model for this composition, which follows the text down to the details of the onomatopoeia and the plot. In order to make the humor of the situations clear, the flautist should use the tempi as freely as possible and exaggerate the volume and color nuances. Regardless of time and meter, the piece should be performed in the manner of a free speech.Performance duration (approx): 12
