“Interesting!”
It's quite unusual to find flute trio music that makes use of piccolo, flute, alto and bass together so this suite is really interesting. The music is appealing and and the doubling is sensible, making performances manageable for those not so used to changing instruments. Each part has an fully independant line which also tests ensemble skills so this is really a complete educational package. It's also a treat for the audience!
From the Publisher
Ancient Rites is a suite of five short movements for three players using five flutes: piccolo, 2 C flutes, alto flute and bass flute. The music is full of memorable melodies and charming harmonic piquancy, picturing ceremonies from the deep past of Britain’s heritage in a beguiling and evocative way. All the instruments are used characteristically and this piece is a great way to introduce audiences to the colourful possibilities of the flute ensemble, and terrific fun to play!
