Three enchanting movements form this magical musical adventure, as we journey through the forest, witness a waltz by moonlight, before stumbling across the resident witch (and her comical antics!). The suite was expertly written by Emma Arandjelovic (Scotland) and she has perfectly captured the clarinet’s playful and comical nature. The range is pretty friendly: D above the stave down to A below the stave, though some slightly more taxing accidentals add to the fun occasionally (blame the witch’s antics!), but these are surely good for the developing player. The three pieces work fine as stand alone pieces in addition to it being formed as the full suite if wished, and the difficulty levels are roughly: Forest Fantasy (piece one) grade 4, Waltz by Moonlight (piece two) grade 4, and A Witch’s Joke (piece 3) is definitely a strong grade 5 (if not grade 6) due to the more challenging accidentals and tempo. An audio downloads code is included to allow access to full demonstration (clarinet with piano), and piano only backing tracks. A delight to play!
