“Quite lovely!”

Boehm had virtually stopped composing original works by the time he sent his new alto flute to Dorus in 1863, but he arranged these Schubert songs to promote the instrument. They were not published during his lifetime and the manuscripts were kept privately until recently. As you might expect, the writing is totally suited to the instrument and the songs are all sensitively treated. My own particular favourite is the lovely Standchen, which would make a very restful end to a concert programme.
