17 Solos for the Native American Flute
From the Publisher
This anthology from James J. Pellerite of Zālo Publications contains a whole new repertoire for the Native American flute, in the form of seventeen concert solos without accompaniment. Modern woodwind techniques are applied to extend the instrument’s scale patterns and stretch technical boundaries, as Native American flute techniques have been applied to the concert flute to extend timbrel and compositional possibilities.
It is said the Native American flute’s innate qualities and tonal resonance are driven by “the power of the woods”—the various woods honored in ceremony, appreciated in celebration, then processed into flutes—now they live, they breathe, and with a naturalness in total expression. By these impressions, each of us is drawn to the magical sounds of the Native American flute.
