As a new piccolo player, I wanted some help, and this book is really good. It's very well laid out, logically explained, and has a good variety of exercises and pieces in it. Many thanks!

5 out of 5 “Good value for money!”

This Piccolo Method book starts with a series of warm-up exercises and is followed by music contained under various different categories, giving you the choice to stick to one genre at a time or to dip in and out of various genres.
Each group is introduced with useful facts about the music it contains.
The book is apparently 'Tailored for novice piccolo players' but beware it does not contain a fingering guide as it is 'not for novice flute players'. This book is best used in conjunction with a teacher.
Lots of music contained in this book. Worth the money!

2 out of 5 “It’s not a method ”

I was looking forward to receiving this but was disappointed when it arrived. The author makes some good points to playing the instrument but that is where it is left. It’s described as a method but a method is where it describes how to play it and at the very least a fingering chart. This is all missing and then the rest of the book is filled with tunes where you could get anywhere. Apparently there is a volume two. Needless to say I won’t be purchasing it as frankly I don’t see the point. Disappointed. It could have been a lot better.

Just Flutes response

Thank you for you taking the time to write your review, Miriam. "Piccolo! Piccolo!" is written for players who already play flute, and assumes knowledge of that instrument already (fingerings, how to hold the instrument, sound production etc). We would never recommend starting piccolo without being able to play flute, as the piccolo is a difficult instrument to begin on.

The exercises and extracts contained in this book are chosen to help players focus on and improve technical areas, such as tone, flexibility and articulation, and include some well-known orchestral excerpts to put these areas into context.
