Product Reviews: I Love Recorder Book 1 (includes CD)

I am using this book to teach a group of beginner players (aged 8). The cd provides fun backing tracks, extra learning material to develop aural skills and a pdf of piano accompaniments. Unlike the other books that our school uses, this book begins with a good quantity of material just using a B, letting the children develop tone, tonguing and counting skills without having to worry about moving their fingers. The CD making the pieces fun and inspiring. The 2 most popular so far have been William Tell (good tonging practise) and one in the form of a ghost story (good practise counting rests and playing in a different style).
We are now at the stage of reading notes and it is nice to have pieces with just semibreves (and rests), giving the children time to think about their fingering and enabling them to develop tone. The tunes ahead of us look like they will be just as inspiring as the music we have encountered so far. We are finding this a great book for children at the very beginning of their music making, enabling them to build a thorough grounding. Once we are able to read more notes, we will supplement the material with our other books.
