“Nice for the soloists”

This is a really valuable and little-known piece for flute and oboe solos. Like a lot of classical concertos, it's pleasant, charming... and a lot more fun for the soloists than for the violas and cellos.
Being in C major, it's not too challenging to play if you know your scales and arpeggios. As there is a lot of work to do on blending tone and attack for the flute and oboe, this makes a very good workout for orchestral principals to work on their teamwork.
There is a Stamitz concerto for the same forces, and would also programme well with Holst's Fugal Concerto.
