Musings for Flute Choir and Percussion

“Fascinating rhythm!”
This is a fascinating piece for six mixed flutes and an array of percussion, so no bass or contrabass is needed to provide a depth of texture. Divided into 'mini movements', rhythm is at heart of all, except the short lyrical interlude for piccolo solo which comes towards the end. Changing bar lengths characterise each section, sometimes with a framework that works in pairs of parts, and sometimes individual lines weave in and out. Major/minor harmonies add extra interest. The challange here is not technical as the range of each part is accessible and there are no hidden surprises for the fingers. This piece is all about ensemble playing - staying together and keeping the structure tight is key to a good performance. The two percussion parts are a vital part of this structure and good ones will hog the limelight! Players and audiences will be intrigued and delighted by this interesing piece - post-concert chat guaranteed!
