Oxford Flute Summer School
Monday, 18 August 2025, 11:00 - Saturday, 23 August 2025 22:00
We would like to welcome you to this year’s Oxford Flute Summer School, now in its 39th year.
We encourage flute players of all ages and abilities to take a look at our website and come and join us for a week of music making with like-minded people from all over the world.
Since 1988 we have continually developed and shaped our summer school to be what it is today – an inclusive, immersive and inspirational experience for anyone (over 15) who has a love of music and the flute. It will surely help you develop your skills and inspire you to continue your flute playing journey.
The week comprises individual lessons, classes and concerts, as well as formal and informal opportunities to play with others in ensembles and flute choir. Our pianists are experts in the flute repertoire and are a joy to play with. Have a look at our website for more details of the three pathways available to you: Players, Performers and Masterclass.
Our teachers are our biggest asset and the team for 2025 includes:
Robert Winn Professor at Köln Hochschule für Musik and former Principal of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Robert brings a wealth of experience and expertise from his long and distinguished career as a professional musician and wonderful teacher.
Emily Beynon Principal Flute of Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam joins us for the first time, at the beginning of our week. We are especially delighted to welcome her since she became Patron of Oxford Flute Summer School Bursary Fund.
Lorna McGhee Newly appointed Principal Flute at Boston Symphony Orchestra will join us for a special online class given from the orchestra’s residency in Tanglewood.
Kate Hill, Robert Manasse, Carrie Hensel and Sue Thomas continue to delight our students with their passion for all things flute, their musical expertise and a love of encouraging others to follow their musical dreams.
The summer school has a generous Bursary Scheme for 15-24 year olds who have potential but not the financial means to attend. See here for more details and make sure to apply before the 4th April for a full or part Bursary.
We look forward to seeing you in Oxford this summer for what promises to be a wonderful week of music making, new friendships and stimulating exchanges!
