“Something very different!”
There isn't much like this in the repertoire for two flutes - it really is something very different! Small Color Fantasy it certainly is. with the opening improvisatory section weaving the flutes around strange piano chords. Slap tonguing and cross accents are the feature of the next passage which is a mixture of dissonance and the flutes in harmony. The 7/16 also contrasts these, with parallel writing in 4ths and 5ths over staccato quaver piano chords too. The opening free writing draws the piece to an atmospheric conclusion. Different and rather wonderful!
