My working life is split mostly between performing around the UK and Europe with Red Note Ensemble and teaching flute at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I also teach privately in my studio at home and teach flute students at Glasgow University.
I am the founder of the Scottish International Flute Summer School and was its director from 1996-2015. I still regularly teach on the course.
When I'm not doing any of those things I play recitals with pianist Scott Mitchell, and with Sharron Griffiths & Scott Dickinson in our flute, viola and harp trio. I also have a duo with composer and vocalist Laura Bowler.
My composition work is published by www.tetractys.co.uk My piece Neon Flicker was shortlisted for the 2023 Scottish New Music Awards. I have published a study book Etudes and Exercises, a trio, Interlaced, and Whisper for solo flute.
I studied with David Nicholson at RSAMD, and as a Wingate Scholar at RNCM with Peter Lloyd. I have many successful students all around the world.What I teach:
