“Great for concerts!”
This is a lovely duet which would be an ideal way for a piccolo player to gain experience by playing with a flute-playing friend. Anne McKennon knows how to write and this piece is great! The flute part takes on the role of mother wren, supporting her fledgling offspring piccolo with more notes and a rather more intricate rhythm. The piccolo range is pitched just right. allowing the performer to concentrate on the music. These Carolina Wrens have fun! This piece would go down a storm at the end of year concert - audience satisfaction guaranteed!
From the Publisher
Fledgling is inspired by a family of Carolina wrens who built a nest above the composer’s door. This charming work for flute and piccolo depicts the pure and simple joys of a mother bird teaching her babies to fly and forage with the piccolo and flute chattering and soaring both separately and in tandem. Fledgling is a delight for musicians and bird-watchers alike, equally suitable for students and professionals.
