“Not quite so sweet!”

Chris Hankin Just Flutes staff member - [email protected]

Don't let the title here lull you into a false sense of security. This should be played at a helter-skelter rate with all six instruments cascading around the opening section. The central blues is more restrained and the closing vivo has great rhythmic drive. The style is jazz, the ensemble needs to be very tight. It’s a fantastic workout!

From the Publisher

An opportunity to display that jazzy side to your playing and a popular edition to the concert programme.

Composed in 2007, Six Sweets is a tribute to Brian Setzer and his 1996 album 'Guitar Slinger'. It is heavily influenced by the Blues master and intended to be played in a jazzy style. It can be played by 6 C flutes or by 5 flutes plus an alto flute.

It has been performed many times, notably by the Croatian flute sextet La Merle Noir [YouTube video].

Marin Rabadan was born in 1978 in Split, Croatia. He is a trombone player with a Master's degree from Zagreb University of Music and is a member of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
