Scott is a sax player, but so much of the flute writing in his prolific output is exciting, and innovative.

From the Publisher

'Eighteen' is a dynamic exploration of rhythm, energy, anglular intervals and melodic development. Included towards the end of the piece is a quote from 'Happy Birthday'. 'Eighteen' was written for Spencer Moran, commissioned by his music teacher & family to celebrate the occasion of his 18th birthday.

A strong internal pulse is the key to an effective performance of 'Eighteen', the rests being as important as the notes. Pay careful attention to given dynamics and articulation, which all add to the overall shape and form of the piece. 'Funky & Hard Edged' is the initial stylistic guide, indicating that 'Eighteen' may played with a 'take no prisoners' attitude!

The original saxophone version of 'Eighteen' was premiered by Andy Scott at Sound Festival 2007. The composer undertook a flute arrangement of the piece for virtuoso flute and saxophone player Andy Findon.

Both the saxophone and flute versions of 'Eighteen' have been recorded by Andy Findon, on the CDs 'Density 21.5' (Nimbus Alliance NI 6157) and 'The Bad Tempered Flute - The Flute Music of Andy Scott' (Nimbus Alliance NI 6156).
